Striper Fishing with Valley Guide Service

Spring Migration

February - March

The month of March, with the rising water temperature invites thousand of Stripers out of the Bay and  Delta as they begin there march up river to spawn. At the beginning of this spring run the larger fish will gather in the warm water sloughs and channels of the Sacramento Delta. Here is where we will be fishing over large concentrations of Striped Bass with our trolling techniques.  This is where an angler has the best opportunity to land a true trophy Striper in excess of 30 or forty pounds. We look forward to these trips every year and have over twenty years of experience targeting trophy Stripers in these waters.

The Spawn

March - May

80 degree outside temperatures and 55-degree water temp is the first signs of the Striper Spawn on the Sacramento River. It is not unusual to land thirty or forty Stripers in an outing during this period of the run. We have mastered the technique of light tackle live bait fishing that is so successful at enticing the pre spawn and spawning fish. On a live bait trip expect multiple hookups on fish averaging from 3 – 12 lbs. with the occasional Striper topping 20 or even thirty pounds! Our boats are equipped with live bait tanks capable of holding 15 dozen baits. Every year we have  several 30 - 40 fish days on keeper Stripers, keeping only a legal limit of males for the table and releasing the rest to spawn. We boated over 600 fish in the month of May out of one boat, not to mention over twenty five Stripers over twenty pounds! These trips are all light tackle with  light action Loomis spinning and casting rods with Shimano reels provided for all guests. This is a great trip for the whole family, providing plenty of action to keep even the children interested.
